Sometimes
controversy is good and sometimes it's just free publicity for mediocre
projects. With all the controversial movies Hollywood has released
in the last year you might think we've had enough of them. But, while
Meltdown may be a little controversial, it is definitely
not mediocre.
"Meltdown
explores what would happen if one of the 103 Nuclear Reactor’s
in this country were suddenly under terrorist attack. How would
our civilian population respond? How would governmental services
respond? How would our nation as a whole respond and what kind of
heroism would emerge in the face of a catastrophe the likes of which
we may find unfathomable? These what-if scenarios play out in a
chilling docudrama fashion with an eye towards absolute authenticity."
Meltdown
opens with a very cool nighttime parachute jump. The terrorists are
introduced who proceed to take over a nuclear power plant in Southern
California with ease.
Who
is releasing this film that just might spotlight a weak homeland defense?
Is it a movie that is being released with a left wing agenda? Will
this movie make the current administration look incompetent in the
eyes of the public?
No,
not at all. It is actually being released by F/X, the sister company
to Fox News Channel and part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.
I
found it amazing that News Corp would make a movie even remotely implying
that the current administration is weak when it comes to defending
the homeland. But then I realized that this movie is meant to entertain
you and not give a lesson in nuclear science or be taken as fact.
By
the way, I don't know if the nuclear power plant looked like a real
facility or more like a donut shop. What I can tell you is that this
movie was fun and exciting.
The
camera angles help create an atmosphere of confusion, panic and total
chaos. Meltdown has great action and drama from start to
finish.
If
you are a fan of 24,
you will love the suspense and twists Meltdown will
put you through. I can't tell you a whole lot about this film without
giving away spoilers, just sit down and enjoy the ride.
Both
Arnold Vosloo
and Bruce
Greenwood were entertaining and convincing. This is not your normal
straight-to-TV movie. With this cast this film could of easily gone
to the big screen.
If
you are bored of re-runs and ready for some new action don't miss
Meltdown
on FX Sunday, June 6 at 8 PM ET/PT.
