ABC Family has acquired rerun rights to the WB Network series "Smallville" and "JKX: The Jamie Kennedy Experiment."

With 66 episodes each under their belts, the shows will begin their multiyear runs on the Disney-owned cable channel in the fall, when both will enter their fourth seasons on the WB.

Sources said "Smallville," a drama starring Tom Welling as Superman in his teenage years, commanded a per-episode price tag in the mid-six-figure range. "JKX," a comedy-reality hidden camera show, was understood to have fetched less than $200,000 per episode.

With the purchase of these shows as well as of rights to movies like "The Perfect Storm," "Miss Congeniality" and "Twister," ABC Family is possibly signaling a shift in its programing strategy by broadening its viewer base and reclaiming its family-friendly programing roots. ABC Family has weathered rocky ratings and executive turnover with the departure last year of president Angela Shapiro and the death in December of programing head Linda Mancuso.
