Exclusive Video Interview: Rick McCallum Wants More Star Wars

Rick McCallum was at the Saturn Awards on Tuesday to accept the best science fiction film award for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

I've met Rick on several occasions and he is just always the funniest guy, curses like a sailor, but just hilarious. He was kind enough at the end of his busy day to talk to us about the upcoming Star Wars TV series plus the future of the Star Wars franchise.

So far as the tv series, McCallum reconfirms that the animated series will be first then the live action. Considering Battlstar Galactica's success and its drama-based storylines, how will Star Wars measure up? McCallum promises it's all about character and that it will be a very dark drama unlike anything seen before in the Star Wars universe.

What about Celebration IV? Hopefully there will be another. Perhaps on a big anniversary, he says, when all six films can be ‘celebrated' together, maybe after they are all converted to 3D. We can only hope! Celebration conventions are the best gatherings of Star Wars fans. Plus, the Steak and Shake down the street from the convention center in Indianapolis is the bomb! Even though McCallum jokingly says he would prefer a big ol' alcohol and drug induced Star Wars party. Hmmm, let's see, girls that are Star Wars fans dressed in the gold Leia slave girl outfit and drunk to boot? What could be better than that?

What else is McCallum up to? He has a cameo in the soon to be released “Fanboys” movie. He says it will probably end up on the cutting room floor but the director Kyle Newman says no, he has one of the best lines in the movie and might just make it in to the final cut.

One final question, we had to ask him, honestly, if it were up to him, would there be more Star Wars films on the big screen? He says, definitely yes!
