| Sony Updates: SPIDER-MAN 4 Production on Indefinite Hold | ||||

UPDATE: Sony has contacted us this morning and they are denying the story. The production is on their expected holiday hiatus, but will ramp up again early next year. Yes, the filmmakers are working on the script, but there is nothing unusual about that at all, productions always are working and tweaking scripts right up until principal photography begins and that is still a few months away. End of update. Looks like everyone's friendly neighborhood web slinger has been been placed on indefinite hold said an inside source exclusively to the IESB today.Apparently, several department heads working on the SPIDER-M4N production were notified of the halt last Thursday. Spidey and friends have some issues that need to be dealt with before production can move forward once again. Oh, and the film is known as SPIDER-M4N within the production offices so take note! Who wants to be the first to start the trending topic on Twitter #SPIDER-M4N? An inside source working on the project tells IESB that there are some major issues director Sam Raimi is dealing with that include an incomplete script. And why is the script incomplete? Looks like Raimi and the studio heads at Sony Pictures can't agree upon a villain for the film. Raimi is pushing hard for the Vulture to be the big baddie, something he also pushed for in the third film to star alongside the Sandman but didn't get and we all know how that one turned out. Vulture was to do his evil deeds alongside the new Goblin and Sandman. A single concept art sketch can be seen in "The Art of Spider-Man 3" book. Vulture and Flint Marko would have been cellmates who escaped together, with Vulture pressuring the more passive Marko into committing crimes. On the flip side, who does the studio want to be the villain? Our source says they seem to only be interested in featuring which ever character is selling books right now but basically they have no idea, just not the Vulture. So, production on SPIDER-M4N grinded to a halt this past Thursday and isn't budging until some compromises are made. Sony is in a bit of a dilemna though because they are insistent upon getting a film shooting as soon as possible. Our source also said these issues aren't being handled in the most friendliest of fashions. There is apparently some definite anger within the production with several people very "pissed off". Perhaps they will use the time over the holidays to calm down in order to make some compromises to decide which way the film will be headed as the new year begins in January. We will have to wait and see!

Production didn't "grinded" to a halt, it "ground" to a halt.

I can`t believe what I`m reading. How often does Sony make the same mistakes? - after the disaster of Spider-Man 3 they really should Sam let do what he wanna do. If not, no real Spider-Man will go into the movie - especially after that rubbish of part three. But overall I don`t understand all these discussion. Since nearly one year exists a real fantastic storybook for Spider-Man 4, published on http://www.mehlhart.net and based on a meeting between Tobey and the writter of the story (Heiko Mehlhart). Decide for your own, which villian is the better one: the vulture or the lizard!

i agree with sony 's choice here! i was just reading that Sam Rami wanted to "get back to the basics" he said he realized the 3rd movie was not all to great, and wants to make the 4th better than evr...so this hold is a great idea for him to sit back and think about how to put this in action. as far as villians go- carnage is a good choice, but i would have to say the Dr. lizard/prof. connors, i mean the 3rd movie left the door open, why not step thru...

honestly, the hold is a great idea. i mean, the last one was ok until that retarded dancing scene... wtf was that about. anyway, yes, lizard and carnage are perfect for the movie. the last movie set it up for not only lizard, but also carnage, if you remember like i do. but why vulture? i understand the reason, but make him cool... and without a hot sidekick like peter rallis said in his youtube channel.

OK,first off: Everyone went home for the holidays...duh. Second: Sony will be dumb to scrap there biggest franchise over pathetic "emo" issuses. If you can make a billion off a drawing,why stop it? Although...it aint the first time Sony has made a dumb choice and stuck with it (Refer to Sonys deal with BLU-RAY). Third: Samuel L. has a movie contract to appear in 11 Marvel films as Nick Fury (Refer to the side deal with Sony,Paramount,Columbia Films,Fox,Universal AND Mr. Stan Lee have to market ALL Mavel Superhero films). Spider-Man 4...oh I'm sorry...SPIDER-M4N, being one of them. Yes,Spidey IS an active (reserve) member of The Advengers. Not to mention Toby & Ms. Dunst there signed a 2 movie contratct deal for SM4 & 5. Its just hype. People somtimes forget (or has'nt heard) about major deals that are made in Hollywood. AND LAST: The Lizard. It only makes sense. Duh. TY

I'm glad that they're not letting Vulture be the main villain. When you think about it, Spider-Man vs. Vulture fight scenes would be boring. Hopefully this "halt" in production will help them come up with a story that will include Spider-Man's greater enemies, like Rhino, Scorpion, Lizard, and Electro, who are pretty much the only good ones left. Villains like Shocker, Mysterio, Chameleon and like I said before, the Vulture would make the same kind of horrible movie like 3, but worse.
