Set Visit Part 1: X-Men: The Last Stand

Q: How have your characters changed from X-Men 2 to X-Men 3 so far as powers and personality?

Berry : Well Storm has some now. (laughter) Well the movie for me is really an ensemble, that's one of the things I really love about working on X-Men. But this time my character Storm not that she's there any more than she ever was but when she's there she's saying something, she has a definite point of view which is really wonderful for me and I know Brett was really instrumental in making that happen. He always wondered, what the heck is Storm doing? So he's always been a supporter, just finding a voice for the character I think I struggled with that over the years. Very much apart of it but not very sure myself what voice Storm was taking from the comic books, it didn't always materialize in the script for me and this time it does.

Ratner: and she gets to fly

Berry: (laughing) and I get to fly, that's another Brett Ratner um, yeah I do get to fly this time.

McKellan: I don't think my character changed, I stayed very much as he was before. Of course it's the eternal argument over civil rights. Whether it's Malcolm X and Martin Luther King or Magneto and Xavier. That's the theory anyway. So that story is being retold. To say they're villainous, I might be villainous but villain? As if there's no motive for that behavior, Magneto has plenty of motive and attitude and political louse you might think he's doing the wrong thing, you'll probably come the worst of any argument with Magneto unless you were a mutant.

Q: Did you feel the need to make Brett feel comfortable as the new director?

Jackman: Brett is the most fearless man you're ever going to meet. He came on relatively late and uh, said, thrilled because I am inheriting a great script, it's a great jumping off point and he was like let's go right from the beginning so Brett's, if you go to a party, Brett's that last person you need to make sure he has a drink.he takes over and runs the place on his own very quickly. I think what's great about Brett is he's that he's very much at home in a movie of this size and scale in every way. I don't feel that you were daunted by it, I don't know if you had any secret fears but I think he enjoys it and has enjoyed being with the cast and we've enjoyed having him.

Ratner: When I'm in the bathroom I throw up occasionally. (laughter)

McKellen: People say, "Oh I see what happens with these." well I'm not going to use that dreadful F word that you used about the film, these are films, to call them franchises as if we are just in the business of just making money I think is an insult to everyone involved including the audience, we're telling a very important story. Just because we are telling it with the same characters three times over just means the story is worth telling three times over. But if your looking for a totally different view of X-Men, which is perfectly possible, our view of x men is quite other than the style of comics, and the television spin off. But, it would be possible that Brett would go down way off the Singer path and I've been very impressed that he decided he absolutely did not want to do that because you'd enjoyed so much what Bryan had done..a script that is superior at the start out to the previous two has a very, very intriguing hook that gets you involved immediately and emotionally with the characters but we have the advantage being the third time around of not having to introduce everyone, there were 20 people all fighting to get on the screen somehow well I think things have relaxed a little bit and hasn't it and it's a bit more indulgent, and Magneto has more to say than the last.
