Exclusive Interview: 1 on 1 W/ The Most Dangerous Mutant in X-Men: The Last Stand

"You know all those dangerous mutants you hear about in the news? I'm the worst one." Pyro in X-Men 2.

That is by far is one of my favorite movie geek quotes of all time. Right next to "I am your father" by Darth Vader in Empire and " Perhaps today is a good day to die" by Worf in First Contact.

That quote was a telling sign of what we can expect in X-Men: The Last Stand when Pyro is finally unleashed to the world. Recently the IESB sat down with Aaron Stanford to discuss Pyro and what else we can expect from the rest of the Mutants when they take The Last Stand.

Q: The full theatrical trailer was released last week, did you see it?

AS: I didn't see it, no

Q: How well do you think Brett did on X-Men: The Last Stand

AS: I think people are going to very pleasantly surprised. The movie is right up his alley, you know what I mean? I think Brett's good with big, big movies. He knows how to make a splash, he knows how to handle a huge spectacle and he also knows how to handle the smaller things of the minutia of character and relationships as you can see in films like Red Dragon. I think he was a great choice, I think he was ideally suited for it. I think people are going to be very happy with what he made, what he brought [to X-Men].

Q:I don't want to say turmoil but when they thought there was one director, Matthew Vaughn, and then that went down the wayside.

AS: There was a big mess

Q: Was there ever a moment of, "crap, who are they going to bring in?"

AS: Yeah, absolutely. The scary thing is that they were so determined to keep the schedule the same. Everyone was very frightened of that because you know suddenly you have to rush through pre-production and they had Matthew Vaughn attached for a while and they wasted several months on that. Brett came on really at the last minute and had very little preparation time. He really deserves a pat on the back for stepping in with very little prep time to make this movie.

Q: How much more action do you get, do we get to see a real nasty side to Pyro?

AS: Yeah, he's incredibly powerful, he's incredibly powerful. He controls one of the most basic elements that there is on the planet. He controls fire; he can do anything he wants to do with fire. You've seen some of his power control burst in X-Men 2 and in this one he is allowed to unleash 'cause Magneto has completely taken the choke off of him. He can do whatever he wants. You do see what's behind this guy. Not this very physically imposing dude who just steps up and unleashes tremendous devastation, so it was fun.

Q: They say that this movie wraps up the X-men trilogy regarding the story arch. But we know there are the spin offs, the Wolverine and Magneto movies. Do you see yourself involved in any future X-Men films?

AS: That is all up to the studios man. Would I do them? I would have to look at the script and figure out who was actually involved. Would I like to be involved in something like that again? Yeah, it's a great world, the X-Men world, the franchise. It's terrific people involved, great actors yeah I would love to keep doing it.

Q: What was different working with Bryan compared to working with Brett?

AS: Like I said it's difficult to compare the two of them, it's apple and oranges you know what I mean. Bryan was very hmm; I don't know what the word is, meticulous. Like I said the number one key feature to Brett was his explosive energy. He comes on set you know his there. He paints that walls with his energy, he's up there going, he has new ideas BIGGER and BETTER and Bryan was a little more subdued. He was just as interested but he was more subdued and a little more focused on some of the minutia I think.

Q: Do we get to see you confront any of your old X-Men comrades?

AS: Oh I think you know that the answer to that
