Of course if we always said no to peer pressure the world would be a dull place where dusty old bitches ruled over us all. So naturally one night at a Halloween party I got severely wasted and after being hit upon by al manner of creatures (not talking about costumes) I was rescued by some friends and escorted to a very cozy couch and a given a Tivo remote. Being me I decided to browse the possibilities and finding no porn I decided to give a random episode of Lost a whirl figuring in my inebriated state I would be even more confused and just go to sleep. Not so much. 48 minutes later I was still awake and looking for the next episode available. As the sun began to crest I fell into a vampire like sleep where I dreamed about being on an island with Evangeline Lilly.
Soon after I was renting, borrowing, and buying the seasons so I could catch up in time for season 4 to begin. I was all set to join the legions of fans, and then the writers strike happened (DOH!). But all things happen for a reason and looking at this last season I think the extra time really helped them punch the show up a few notches and along the way putting an end date on things have really helped bring this show to a fever pitch of sorts.
While fans might argue which season was weakest I think the point is moot really, season two worked perfectly for me and the only flaw with season three was the lull in pace at times and the usage of too many secondary characters. Say what you will but season finale for 3 was a total mind blower that became the new standard going into season 4.
Arguments about previous seasons aside season 4 does blow them away with the danger and mystery coming at you like a runaway train. Figuring out who the gets off the island and how coupled with figuring out the other players in this new game are can leave you feeling exhausted let alone the ongoing mystery of just what the hell this island is. Is it hell? In another dimension? Is it all a dream? So long as they don’t pull an X-Files this show will live on as one of the strongest and most well written shows ever to hit the airwaves.
