Movies:
Sci Fi/Fantasy/Horror Action/Drama:
The Dark Knight / Batman Begins:
2008 was a year of heroes on film and non of them hit as hard as The Dark Knight.
Iron Man:
The lighter side of heroes movies 2008 and the most fun to watch. Not dark and gritty like Dark Knight but solid and insanely enjoyable.
Cloverfield:
Giant Monster trashes New York and eats yuppies...all made with the help with the peeps who make Lost. Basically this is a movie made from the perspective of those poor people you see running and yelling "GODZILLA!!" Man that's awesome.
The Incredible Hulk:
Say what you will about the Ang Lee HULK, it doesn?t matter because there?s a new Hulk in town and even Bruce Banner kicks ass ala Jason Bourne these days.
Hellboy II:
While not as accessible as the first this one still hits the right notes and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
Hancock:
America loves Will Smith, if going to rent this movie this morning showed me anything its how true that statement is. Plus you have to love a movie that was originally titled "Tonight He Comes" and went with something that has cock in the title. NICE!
The Godfather:
This new restored collection is outstanding! Sure Part III is loved by few the first two plus the special features make this the set to have.
The Bank Job:
If this wasn't a true story it would have been made by up by Guy Ritchie but this true heist story is super slick and sexy.
Indy 4:
Indiana Jones is the man, well at least he can take his spot next to the likes of James Bond, Jack Bauer, Shaft, and Jason Bourne. While this 4th installment doesn't quite hit the same notes as the original trilogy its still damn fun to watch and lets face it you need this to complete the collection.
Wanted:
While Erich didn't love this one I found this one massively fun even if it is a tad bit chaotic at points. It's got style and action and some serious heat thanks to some chick name Angelina.
James Bond On Blu-Ray:
Who doesn't love James Bond? Ok maybe Bond isn't for everyone but for those that don?t feel that way there's plenty of musicals and chick flicks. Now that Bond is on Blu Ray just makes this a must have.
Comedy:
Spaced The Complete Series:
Before Shaun of The Dead there was Spaced. Doesn't matter if you are a huge fan of Shaun or Hot Fuzz this show just kills! Having had the import version for a few years it has seen quite a bit of replay on here in the House of M. Thankfully it's FINALLY out here in the states and nows your chance to see the humble yet hysterical beginnings of the boys who would become kings of geek comedy.
Hot Fuzz:
The second part of the blood and ice cream trilogy. This one is not only a love letter to crazy adrenaline fueled American action films it's about a love shared between two guys and their guns.
Shaun of The Dead:
Odds are if you are reading this on Film Geekz you've seen it many times. If not I only have to ask: What The Fuck Is Wrong With You?!! Just order it now and make someone very happy.
Tropic Thunder:
One of the funniest movies of 2008, I've had my DVD of this for a month and I can't get enough of it.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall:
Anyone who's ever had even a semi bad break up needs to see this movie; it just nails every single part of a bad break up and recovery..co-staring Jason's penis.
Flight of the Conchords - The Complete First Season:
Few people can make the claim of being New Zealand's 4th most popular folk parody duo. If that's not enough of a set up for a show I don't know what is. With catchy tunes and insanely goofy yet grounded plots this show is all kinds of absurd fun to watch.
Robot Chicken:
Seth Green is a twisted little geek and I love the guy for it. Fanboys have cried for years that George Lucas raped their childhoods..but as it turns out it was really Seth Green and his crew at Robot Chicken playing the secret touching game all along.
Harold And Kumar 1 & 2:
The first movie I totally dismissed in theaters because it looked like a lame riff on something like Dude Where's My Car?...and that movie was a lame riff on itself...unless you smoke weed..which I don't. Unlike Dude Where's My Car Harold and Kumar are actually funny even while watching sober. But I'm told it's even better while not so sober.
Idiocracy:
Perhaps you've heard of it, perhaps no. Sad part is the humor will go over many people's heads. They should package this movie with an Inconvenient Truth..it's not just the environment we are killing it's our culture and IQ's.
Futurama:
While the Simpsons seem to be running on nothing but fumes, its Matts other creation that has slammed it home on every single episode. Futurama lived for four glorious seasons and is now returning in feature length movies. Having just watched the latest yesterday I still cannot get enough of this show and have nearly worn down my original DVD sets. GET THEM ALL!!
Kevin Smith:
Love him or hate him Kevin has created his own version of the Jersey Universe with these films. Mind you I'm leaving Jersey Girl off the list, not because I don't enjoy the film I just don't think it fits in with the others.
Mystery Science Theater 3000:
If I have to explain this you probably wont like it
TV on DVD:
Lost:
Sure for every answer you get 42 new questions but this show just continues to evolve and amaze. Season four was nothing less than awesome and altered the show in ways that make my mouth water for season five.
Battlestar Galactica:
Although the end is near...ok maybe not near but closer (after all the delays) but this is a show worth the wait. 4 seasons and one Razor later this show will be missed and is one of the best sci-fi shows ever to grace the air.
Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles:
When they announced this show I didn't expect it would amount to a damn thing. But I have to admit the show really does work and while it doesn?t fit with the movies adds something of its own right.
Pushing Daisies:
When season arrived for review I honestly wasn't expecting just how good this show would be. The stories are very well done with a touch of sweet macabre.
Always Sunny:
Don't even read this just go pick it up. This show is one of the sickest and funniest things on TV. Every time you think this show couldn?t take it up a notch they take it up two notches.
30 Rock:
Tina Fey's smartest written comedy on TV show. Nuff said..ok not enough I just want to add "Tina I love you and if you need a man toy on the side..call me"
Burn Notice:
It's got Bruce Campbell. What happens when a spy gets let go? They don't get fired they get burned. The show is really solid and did I mention it has Bruce Campbell?
How I Met Your Mother:
While Pushing Daisies is one of the sweetest love stories on TV HIMYM is the funniest straight forward one. While Romcoms aren't normally my thing this one is quite good and holds up to repeat viewings.
Heroes:
Love it? Hate it? Use to love and now hate it but now love it again? Yeah that?s Heroes for ya. Season One was awesome and although Season Two got off to a rocky start it ended on a better note with a good lead into Three.
Chuck:
Hour long comedy and spy action that all takes place in a faux Best Buy? Heh heh count me in. Chuck is actually more solid than it sounds by that description and has become the middle of out Monday night Homework and Heroes standard.
Kids:
Wall-E:
Pixar..need I say more? Not only a great kids movie, it's also got a double message about love and also excess and destroying our planet. Not just one of the best kids movies this year but one of the best movies of the year.
The Nightmare Before Christmas: If you've been reading this site over the last month you probably have a good idea of just how much I love this movie. Give the gift of this awesome movie they will love you for it.
Kung Fu Panda: Skadoosh! One of the funniest kid flicks this year rocks with the action as well.
Sleeping Beauty:
The latest of the old school Disney to get a make over. While I'm not the biggest fan of this one the movie looks simply stunning on this new set. I'm sure theres a little girl you know that needs this one.
Pixar Short Films Collection - Volume 1:
Sure you have most of these on the various Pixar movies but with this you'll get all of those and some earlier shorts by the geniuses at Pixar.
Singing/Documentary/Drama:
Sweeney Todd:
At last your musicals DVD section will be complete again.
The King Of Kong:
Ok while the idea of watching a movie about two dudes going for the title of best Donkey Kong player doesn't sound like much fun I have to tell this movie is fascinating and even re-watchable (seen 3 times and counting). Check this one out and find out who's top dog and just what a Kill Screen is.
Mama Mia:
ABBA is many things to many people. Mind you most of those people are girls and/or wearing hot pants. This was the little movie that could this year and made enough wads of cash to choke a male prostitute on Labor Day. While I haven?t seen it myself I'm sure I will soon and I do enjoy a few ABBA tunes so we?ll see what happens.
The Kennedys: America's Emerald Kings:
With the release of the new JFK set I got a look at this one and it's a fascinating look The Kennedy family. Got a documentary fan in your life this one makes a good gift (either on it?s own or with the JFK set).
In Bruges:
Never heard of it? That's possible. This is one of those movies that I picked up not really expecting much out of and got bitch slapped by how good it is. This is a twisted little story of betrayal, stupidity, and two blokes who just may or may not have a clue.
Romance/Classic:
Casablanca:
Many people will say that Citizen Kane is the one single film everyone should watch..and while I agree that it's a great film I'd have to argue that Casablanca is the film for that title. As if this wasn?t one of the best films EVER made they have a new 3 disc ultimate collectors edition that just rocks! Show some serious class and pick this up for someone special.
Definitely, Maybe:
A love story told sideways, reverse, and in parts. Not you're run of the mill love story and worth a look.
The Adventures of Robin Hood:
One of my all time favorite movies. A little campy in production but just a classic film that cannot be tarnished by time. Now on Blu Ray and ready to rock your world.
The Graduate (40th Anniversary Collector's Edition):
Yes I am trying to seduce you, into realizing someone in your life needs this classic movie of romantic intentions.
Bound/Secretary:
Not every love story falls under the header of "normal"and I'm not going to be the one to leave someone out in the cold who needs some love attention, especially if it's Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, or Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Graphic Novels:
Watchmen:
Can't really claim to be a fan of comics unless you've read it, plus with the movie on the way it's time to study up so you don't lose any Geek cred while you wait in line.
Frank Millers Batman:
A set must of reads for any fan of the Batman.
Batman: The Killing Joke:
If you loved Ledgers version of the Joker you'll love diving into this twisted tale.
X-Men: God Loves Man Kills:
Sure you could go with The Dark Phoenix Saga but for stand alone story and great writing this is a good pick.
300:
Odds are you might have heard of this one, in any case pick this up and you'll appreciate the film even more.
Books:
Zombies:
Best books ever written about the zombie war....really.
The Stupidest Angel and Other Christopher Moore Books:
The perfect Christmas book, full of strange characters, zombies, and talking bats.
Enders Game:
One of my favorite books of all time, and one that even non sci-fi fans should read.
Choke and Other Books By Chuck:
Who doesn't want to read a book about a sex addict who might be the half clone of Jesus? Honestly.
Twilight:
*sigh* If you can't beat them with a snow shovel you might as well join the Twilight cult, or at least let someone else take the bullet for you and give it as a gift.
Video Games - The Systems:

Not only does it have some fantastic games this Holiday it?s the best way to get the best of both worlds with games and Blu Ray! Also go buy the game download of the game "Pain" and find the best way to waste time and smash things.

Samsung HT-BD2T Blu-Ray 7.1 Channel Home Theater System:
Can't have the plasma TV and Blu-ray without a kickin sound system can ya? No you can't. Although I do, but its not for lack of trying I'm just poor.
Canon PowerShot 10MP Digital Camera:
A good little point and shoot camera. Simple to use for great pics while not carrying around a bunch of gear with you, because seriously when you have a pressing need to take a picture you need something that works fast and easy otherwise she's going to change her mind and put her clothes back on.
