When Mind of Mencia came hot on the heels of Chappelle Show I tuned in and to be honest I thought that it wasn’t great but that it would get better over time. But now I’m faced with the bitter truth of it.
Carlos has become the class clown who’s been held back so many times he’s just got himself stuck in a rut using the same old jokes hoping a new crop of freshmen will find him as funny as he does. Sure some of it still works and you’ll giggle a bit but not nearly as much as Carlos does.
In all honesty I think the show ruined his act; nearly all of his comedy is now punctuated with this “neener neener” slap in the face where Carlos proclaims everyone but him is stupid. Now I have no problem with a comic showing distain for the world at large or even his audience but it has to be funny and should never EVER be the entirety of it.
While I love social commentary and often times the more scathing the better not much of the show manages to get past cruelty for cruelties sake and after awhile it just gets tired and old after a few episodes. More often than not I wonder if Carlos wouldn’t have been better off taking a stab at a sitcom instead of this format. I’ll even give him a free TV pitch right here; Carlos is forced to do community service (you pick the reason) at INS, hilarity ensues, practically writes itself.
Overall: If you are a fan of the show you will be very happy, if not this one might not be for you. Buy It Now: Rating:
