-Modeling Sheets Version: BluRay Review: I have a love hate relationship with this movie; on the one hand I have been a fan of the comic since I was about 9 years old and I naturally I had to let go of quite a bit of that to try and wrap my mind around the film version. On the other hand despite not being overwhelmingly in love with the theatrical version the Directors Cut is a massive improvement to the whole thing and far more enjoyable.
It’s hard to really understand what Mark Steven Johnson was going for when he made this; He nailed some classically framed moments from the comic but the rest of the film is left sort of in neutral for long stretches and it makes the entire thing feel really lopsided but still enjoyable for the most part. Sad part is if there weren’t awesome other super hero flicks out there like Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight this would probably be hailed as a major success as far as the genre goes. But we’ve seen the higher side of things and it just dulls this one a bit.
As you can see I really have a love hate relationship with this one. I do enjoy what’s on screen to enjoy but I just know it could have been better than the sum of its parts even without getting into fanboy nitpicking.
All the talk of rebooting Daredevil has me exited though, it’s a character that stands a great chance of connecting with people in the way that Batman and Spider-Man has with the right script, director, and cast.
On the plus side however is that they went with the Directors Cut for the High Def release and it looks pretty damn good on Blu Ray. While most of the features are not new check out the Enhanced Viewing Mode that lets you see the behind the scenes stuff while you watch the movie (man I love that kind of stuff). If you own a Blu Ray player this is one of those movies worth picking up if you are a fan of the genre. Buy It Now: Rating:
