9. What He Beheld Version: Standard Review: As a big fan of the Terminator universe I wasn't sure what to make of this idea to bring it to the small screen. Not only does a backward leap like that guarantee lesser special effects but they had titled the show The Sarah Connor Chronicles…and she was confirmed for a toe tag in the last film.
During Comic Con 2007 I went to the pilot screening and Q&A and when I came back with a report that not only didn’t rail the show it gave it a geeky blessing to forge on people looked at me as if I’d just farted.
Now that’s not to say the show doesn’t play it fast and loose with the Terminator Universes continuity, oh it does that for sure. But it’s handled quickly and cleanly as if ripping off a giant band aid. Sarah might be dead in 2003, but one quick game of time leap frog and she’s back in the game in 2007. Which means at some point she’ll likely have to be stricken with cancer and bounced back in time to end her days there. Hey Star Trek has been pulling far far crappier time travel bullshit for years so I’m game for it.
As in the comic books the human resistance has been building a network back in time to help the cause, and not just where the Connor’s are concerned. This is like the prison camp from The Great Escape only spread out through time. They’ve got forgers, engineers, hackers, all kinds of people just waiting for a chance to help out. Not a bad little plot device for getting out of tight spots eh?
The storylines, the acting, and the effects in the show are actually pretty decent for network TV. It doesn’t look campy or goofy like some other Sci Fi shows out there (not mentioning any names), and it’s got enough whiz bang to keep up.
With only nine shows in the first season It’s a quick trip through but I’m hoping next season can squeeze out at least 22 episodes and see what this show can do when running on a full head of steam. Buy It Now: Rating:
