It's been five days of insanity, geekin out, freakin out, parties, sleep depravation, hang overs, hot chicks in costumes, giggles, fun, friends, celebrities, and hard work.
For years I'd been planning to hit the halls of Comic Con, and every single year I'd somehow managed to miss my window. I'd been going to Wonder-con for years of course, but compared to Comic Con it's like playing minor league baseball. Last year was my first time in the majors and I have to admit I was no way prepared for what it would be like in reality. I spent so much time last year being the Wolverine of this X-men group; always off on some solo mission to get the goods. Seriously I was always first one out the door in the morning, last one back in, and last one to pass out at night. Don't get me wrong I loved every minute of it.
This year was a bit tamer in some ways; my schedule was kept light and easy. I could literally camp out in areas for most the afternoon leaving me the ability to sit, stretch, move about. Everything I needed to keep my back injuries from locking up and putting me out of commission. Now that?s not as dull or simple as it sounds I had plenty to do and if you read the other blogs I got tons done and had a damn good time doing it. And let's face it after this year I needed to finally get out of the house.
After sleeping for a scant three hours after the Wrath of Con party I awoke to my final day in San Diego. My schedule for the day was light so light in fact I skipped everything to take care of some personal needs. It's a calm day at the convention and thank the gods because I was holding my body upright by sheer force of will alone.
I walked the floor to hunt down some last minute free swag, buy a couple things, get them shipped and then get my sorry ass to the airport and back to Sactown. With that allow me to offer some suggestions. 1) Don?t use the FedEX shipping outlet in the convention hall. They take forever and you'll pay 40 bucks to ship stuff back that would cost you 10 anywhere else. It's a rip..just avoid it if you can. 2) Make use of that ?personal? bag they let you have on the airline and pack your carry one and extra bag with as much as possible. I ended up paying extra because my checked luggage was too heavy. So I ended paying about 65 bucks to ship back free swag..mind you my friends will be happy since I brought back many many fun items back for them..but still.
Waiting in the Airport I was surrounded by people who were clearly at the convention. For my first time I fell asleep on a plane, it was only for a moment but given my aversion for air travel it's something to note.
Comic Con is a tough thing to explain to someone who's never been, or even someone who's been there but not behind the scenes of it...or as I've been calling it "In the shit" You work hard, you play harder (ok maybe that?s just me) every moment has something to offer in the way of controlled chaos.
