In all honesty I’ve learned to cope with book vs film over the years. Don’t get me wrong I can debate it like no other but at the end of it all what matters most to me in 92% these things is did they make an entertaining movie? *I save that 8% for future gripes*
In the case of Spiderwick they absolutely made a very entertaining film, and one I’ve seen four times now. The boy enjoys it and I’m certain at some point he’ll request the books to read as well. And there you have the other positive side of book adaptations…it creates readers. I’m personally thankful for anything that rescues me from Pokemon and the like. Book comparison not with standing aside this is a film that I think could stand the test of time as a really solid family film that doesn’t pander to kids or attempt lame “adult” humor. (thank you)
There really is a lot of love about this movie, Freddie is turning in one strong performance after another. If we could just have some sort of future arranged marriage between Freddie and Abigail Breslin we could count on a future generation of talented child actors. The special effects are tip top and supporting characters are fun and enjoyable, which is far more rare than it should be in family films.
The story has moments where it does feel like things are getting stalled out, and I resigned that there must be something in the book that was removed and is to blame for the hiccup. That aside I’m sure we are going to be enjoying this one for a long while to come. Buy It Now: Rating:
