Review: Since Ab Fab landed on our shores so many years ago I had tried to keep up with the sets; first in VHS and then later in DVD. But much like the Young Indiana Jones TV sets it was frustrating, fruitless, and despite my efforts a complete failure. And thankfully again like those adventures of Young Indy someone finally got it right and put them out properly in some totally kick ass sets.
I may be as red blooded as the next guy here in America but my sense of humor it seems is 76% British. You see as a child I found a gateway film to my love of all things Brit; Time Bandits! Odd I know. But once I’d seen and fell in love with that movie I sought out other things from across the pond and naturally found my way to Monty Python. Which as you can imagine became the building blocks for my sense of humor. Thus making me a hybrid of comic sensibilities…which makes my son the chosen one foretold to bring balance to the potty humor.
Naturally I’ve always kept an eye on all things of Brit humor, so imagine my glee when I saw this shiny new Absolutely Fabulous headed stateside set to become the end all be all of Ab Fab. 9 Discs with every episode and special featuring the adventures of Patsy and Edina!!
While many comedies simply don’t age well, Patsy and Edina are damn near timeless in their ultra bad taste and awful behavior. Even pouring through all nine discs in less than a week it hasn’t gotten old (what can I say?..I had a little time on my hands) or stale. It’s been like a visit from those wild friends you had to stay away from because you joined AA. I guess that puts me off the wagon and damn proud of it. (for those of you actually on the wagon, don’t mind the visuals…oh and grow a sense of humor about it)
Now that I have Young Ones and Absolutely Fabulous sitting pretty in my DVD collection all that seems missing is that uber cool set for Spaced coming out in a few months.
