Now they give us a spoof of 300...well at least as a framework to fill in the numerous pop culture fueled cracks.
When I got a call from an old friend to tell me that he actually enjoyed the movie I nearly grabbed the phone book to find a nice padded room for him..but then I asked the all important question: how much did you drink? AH HA! The answer: Quite a bit.
Not one to back down from a challenge I took in the movie with Sailor Jerry as my co-pilot...and you know what? I laughed. Now DON’T get me wrong I am not going suggest or encourage people to go out and get drunk just to enjoy a movie..I’m just saying it helps and lets face you people don’t need much encouragement from me to get faded….so don’t go do something stupid and blame me for it. The great thing about DVD is you are home and can turn it off any time you like so feel free to watch it sober as a priest on Sunday.
Keep in mind of course that this is only a notch above Epic Movie. They still fire off pretty lame pop culture jokes at a pace that just boggles the mind and conjures thoughts of someone with a stopwatch on the side line yelling “40 seconds! Get the next gag ready!” But where Epic failed Spartans does manage to keep a steadier track and pull out a few giggles. Let me put it to you this way: It took me 3 tries to make it through Epic and my liver will never forgive me. It only took one try a Spartans.
Of course the jokes are bad; they are supposed to be pretty cheap. But it can be fun with the right group of friends. But the real question is: When did we lose the secret to making good spoofs? Movies like Airplane, The Naked Gun, Spaceballs…hell even Loaded Weapon One had some damn funny moments in it. Spoofs are suppose to be similar to the original but a sort of goofy parallel universe version. You can watch Airplane today and even if you are too young to understand that it’s a spoof it’s still funny for the most part, movies like this one are so quickly dated that they wont age well at all..come on in three years is anyone going to remember or thing it’s funny how Britney shaved her head…hell no by then her or someone like her will have done something far more crazy.
Overall: If you are in need of a disposable laugh with zero plot to free your mind from your troubles you could do worse than Meet The Spartans. Buy It Now: Rating:
