REVIEW
Movie
In honer of the the triumphant return of our 2 favorate stoner buds to the BIG screen, I thought it only appropriate to showcase the joint that started it all, "Harold and Kumar" Go to White Castle"
So I grilled up a stack of sliders, fired up the MelliniBong Falcon (and had my pipe-saber ready (a more elegant somking device for a more eligant time) and settled in for some good High times!
It had been a while since I had last seen Harlod and Kumars crazy night of adventures, trying to placate their munchies with those delcious burgers, and I have to say, it hasn't lost a beat!
This movie is still freakin hysterical from start to finish! Kal Penn and John Cho are like the Lemmon and Mattheau of this generation (these movies are definielty their "Odd Couple") In only hope they branch out togheter into more films!
Add to that the supporting cast of crazy m-f'ers, Neil Patrick Harris playing himself (this is about as funny a caricature as Dave Chappelle's Rick James "I'm Triipen Balls!"), David Krumholtz and Eddie Kay Thomas as the Jewish stoner roommates, and some great cameos from Jamie Kennedy and Ryan Reynolds, and the ultimate- "Law and Order SVU's" Chris Meloni as Freakshow the creepy disfigured tow-truck driver with the hot wife, and you have one of the funniest casts assembled in recent film!
The movie's jokes and gags hit almost everytime (I would say the the funny starts to loose steam and get a little rediculous near the end (come on... riding a high cheetah... in New Jersey??? You went just a little too far....) but the rest of the movie's high jinx and hilarity more than make up for the few misfires!
And sprinkled in to all this comedy goodness is some really good messages like, never judge a book by it's cover and racist stereotypes are usually way off base, you gotta put up with a lot from your friends- 'cause they put up with you! and NEVER get stuck in a bathroom with hot English chick right after they've eaten a bag of tacos!!!! ... Valuable lessons, indeed!
Ultimately, this is a fine addition to you comedy collection, I can now say that this movie passes both the test of time (ok.. 4 years so far) and repeated viewings! If you ever feel the need for a laugh (as we all do from time to time...) this movie will be guarenteed to get your spirirts high! (Getting yourself high sold seperatly!)
DISC:
The disc itself says it's a remastered version of the disc release 3 years ago... I really didn't notice much of a change from version to version. The picture is more that adequate for this movie. The surround effects are also fine (especially during the "Battle-Shites" sequence, unforunatly!)
All the features from the first disc are also ported over to the new edition. There is a wealth of cool stuff to fire up after the movie is over!
BUT, most importantly, is the menu system has also been ported over in it's entirety! (I won't spoil it for you, but just get to the main menu and don't do anything!) This is easily one of the best menus ever on DVD!!!
As for the new material, there is a largely forgettable featurette about the boy's induction into the "White Castle-Cravers" Hall of Fame... (There's on HoF I actually have no desire whatsoever to get into!)
There is also the trailer and a 15 minute little EPK on the Sequel.
All in All- this really is a must have DVD! If you don't already have it, pick it up today! BUT if you have the original version, this Double Dip is not worth pick in up again!
ALSO: If you do by the latest version, it comes with movie cash to see the new "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" Buy It Now: Rating:
