The Baby Mama Drama – Kudos to the genius who cast both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler together. Easily two the funniest girls in Hollywood right now and they play so well off each other they could be sisters…or at least cousins.
The movie is pretty straightforward as the trailers suggest, but it does have it’s little tweaks and twists..mmm tweaks and twists…oops sorry. Kate (The Fey) is a woman catching up with life after nurturing her career over her love life and has found her biological clock is more like a time bomb that’s left her womb more barren than the Jutland Wastes. Enter Angie (Poehler) who at the urging of Sigourney Weaver is going to play host to Kate’s eggs *Face Hugger Implantation Not Shown.*
Most of the movies comedy comes from the bickering between the two ladies, the random new age joke, and getting a giggle out of Amy showing us what Britney Spears would be doing if she hadn’t sold her tiny soul to Disney.
Greg Kinnear plays a role you’ve seen him play a few times, he’s just there to drive a few plot points forward and be the catalyst for one of the twists I mentioned. The odd thing is watching Steve Martin be kinda funny again…hell I didn’t even know he was in the movie based on those trailers. He’s the wacko new age boss to Fey and most of his funny moments come from uncomfortable comedy…which I didn’t know he knew how to do anymore…kinda shocking to laugh with Martin since seeing Pink Panther. Dax is well Dax in this one and like Greg it just feels like a carbon copy of something you’ve seen him do already. The one thing that made me sad was all the old jokes laid on Sigourney Weaver throughout this movie, I’m sure she’s fine with it and had a good laugh but as a certified cougar hunter it just makes me sad to think of such a fine beast not getting the respect she deserves.

Tina is one of those ultra rare talents in Hollywierd, sure she's a sexy leading lady but she’s also insanely smart, hip, and carries a tongue so sharp it’s got to be made of adamantium. I'd match her up against any of the current crop of top notch actresses and hotties, and I'd tenaciously win any argument you may have against her as a casting choice...and if you happen to be more stubborn than I am I’ll just punch cock punch and take your wallet. Choose your arguments wisely kids.
Like most fans of The Fey I fell tops over bottoms for her during her run behind the weekend update desk of SNL. I remember reading about her in one of my screenwriters’ magazines about her pitch for Mean Girls. Watching her career take off felt like rooting for an underdog dodgeball team and I loved it because even though Hollywood is a tough biz for a female writer to crack she never felt like a longshot. Her time on SNL was some of the most solid writing in its history, her movies are smart and funny, and 30 Rock is one of the few shows that’s not only gotten better with each episode but it’s never had a single bad episode…don’t believe me just pick up the season one DVD set and we’ll argue it out (bring a cup).
Now I don’t want to be any sort of home wrecker, I’m happy Tina has a great guy in her life but I have to wonder is it really bad karma to hope he suddenly comes out of the closet he might be trapped in (not in the R. Kelly way) It’s not like I’m wishing the guy harm and I’d certainly be there to help The Fey with a really fun rebound play toy. I’m guessing it would probably still fall under the terms of bad karma…but sometimes ya just gotta say “Fuck Karma” and run with it. Karma be damned I’m here if the Fey needs me...and if you think I'm kidding just take a look and see where she landed on my 2007 Hotties list (link below).
Slightly Creepy Love Letter aside I just have a ton of respect for The Fey, while I hate that anyone looks to Celebs for role models I can’t think of a better one for young girls than Tina. Don’t get me wrong I’d be happy to become Mr Tina Fey though.
