Dan in Real Life has one of the most happy go fun lucky family units in recent film, these people are strange but they all love each other very much and seem to genuinely want to spend time together (how odd). They play so many games and are so supportive it feels less and less like a vacation and more like a support group. I'm jealous and thankful all at the same time that this is not my family. Mind you I say all this as a good thing and not a flaw.
The biggest flaw in this is casting. It’s a fine cast all around and while I heart Dane Cook and Juliette Binoche they just are not right for these roles. Dane seems like himself but restrained and it just comes off wrong, while Juliette is her beautiful self but carrying around this character that she doesn’t seem to understand or project. In other projects these two are great it’s just here in these roles they are square pegs in a world of round holes.
Slight flaws aside the movie is damn entertaining and a good flick so snuggle up on the couch with your honey and enjoy.
