The Review: Horton Hears An Inconvenient Truth
Ya know it’s pretty hard to take a 20 page book and crank it out into an eighty eight minute flick, more so when it’s a story most of us could tell by heart.
You can only do so much before you start to get too far off from the original story before you’ve lost your way. With Horton they decided to expand as much as they could within the context of the story and sort of side track you with a semi-subtle tale about ignoring the warning signs of the environment around you.
Not a bad way to go, it’s certainly a great message to convey along the way to saying those doomed Who’s on a speck. But after a while the movie begins to wear thin a bit, not because the story is dry just that we know so well the beats of where it’s going and your mind begins to wonder what is taking so long to get there.
Watching this I just kept thinking that it’s been too long since we’ve seen (or heard) Jim Carrey, mind you it’s because I refuse to watch Number 23 and I wasn’t fond of Dick and Jane…I dunno maybe I miss the old Jim sometimes…any who (heh) I think he’s great as Horton’s sweet goofy little star and a perfect balance to Steve Carrell in this. Now if we could just get them on screen again going all banana sandwiches.
Feeling of lag (for adults) aside mini-me really enjoyed the new CGI Horton, as family films go you can do a ton worse than Horton, just think of it as new Seuss and enjoy. Rating:
