Comedy Director: Roger Donaldson Writers: Dick Clement, Ian La Frenais Cast: Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows, Stephen Campbell Moore, Daniel Mays, Michael Jibson, Richard Lintern, Georgia Taylor, Peter De Jersey, David Suchet Synopsis: A car dealer with a dodgy past and new family, Terry (Statham) has always avoided major-league scams. But when Martine (Burrows), a beautiful model from his old neighborhood, offers him a lead on a foolproof bank hit on London's Baker Street, Terry recognizes the opportunity of a lifetime. Martine targets a roomful of safe deposit boxes worth millions in cash and jewelry. But Terry and his crew don't realize the boxes also contain a treasure trove of dirty secrets - secrets that will thrust them into a deadly web of corruption and illicit scandal that spans London's criminal underworld, the highest echelons of the British government, and the Royal Family itself...the true story of a heist gone wrong...in all the right ways. The Review: Holy Shit Jason Statham kicks ass! The guy is 7 layers of cool, which only raises up the cool-o-meter thanks to the fact that the guy isn't chasing awards just adrenaline. He makes movies he wants to see and damn it we love him for it.
Ok now that I'm done gushing over Jason lets chat about The Bank Job; probably the first decent heist flick to come out of the U.K. that doesn't have the name Guy Ritchie stamped on it. The trippy part is for as crazy as the plot gets, it's based (probably loosely) on real events.
I’m not even going to go into the specifics of the plot, you should go and discover it for yourself and not have it ruined. I’ll give you the basic set though just to whet your glands; Royal Princess gets her groove back while some naughty photo’s are taken, word gets out said pics are located in a safety deposit box so they high out some local thieves to rob the joint and pull a royal snatch job (yeah I went there). Along the way of course all hell breaks loose and gang is royally fucked. Seriously the only thing this movie is missing is a balls out car chase.
The only other thing I want to mention (It’s me and sort of standard really) is: Saffron Burrows. WOW! Now she’s always been a beautiful woman but she just smolders in this movie. Perhaps she’s normally the nice girl and here she’s got a dark side (I likes my women sort of villainous it seems), or maybe it’s because she has that “just one of the blokes” thing going on…whatever it is just got her a holding spot on this years Hottie list. I now absolve her of her crimes in Wing Commander.
Honestly whatever movie plans you have this weekend, skip the rest of the crap coming out and get your heist on! Rating:
